ABOUT MY FATHER'S HOUSE

Offering a Hand-Up Since 2017

OUR CALL

In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

John 14:2-3

Our Mission

My Father’s House is a prison reentry nonprofit that provides transitional housing, job placement assistance, life-skills training, and a supportive community to men on parole so they can lead whole and productive lives.

Our Men’s Challenges

My Father’s House serves men who face a range of challenges and needs as they reintegrate into society.

  • The lack of access to affordable housing makes it difficult for them to secure stable and safe housing.
  • Most of our individuals struggle to find stable employment due to factors such as limited work experience, gaps in employment history, and discrimination based on their criminal record. Many of our participants have limited education and job skills, making competing in the job market challenging.
  • Additionally, many of these individuals have higher rates of mental health issues and substance abuse disorders, which require treatment and support.
  • They also have legal and financial obligations, such as restitution payments and court fees, that are difficult to meet without stable employment.
  • Reentering society can be isolating, and most of the individuals we serve lack a strong support system of family and friends. Forming positive relationships and reintegrating into the community can be challenging for formerly incarcerated individuals, who may face stigma and judgment from others.
Our Approach

Due to the nature of our work and the need to provide intensive, holistic services, My Father’s House chooses to work with a limited number of men at a time offering them housing, community, and case management to facilitate successful reintegration into society. Participants remain in our program until they secure steady employment and acquire the skills and support necessary for sustained independence. Typically, most participants graduate within 8-14 months. As men graduate, we enroll new participants. Unfortunately, due to the current state of the carceral system, demand for our services consistently exceeds capacity, resulting in a continuous waitlist that allows us to quickly fill openings as they arise.

Our Vision for the Men

As we watch the men who come to live at My Father’s House grow and move on, we hope that they will:

  • Discover new purpose and find themselves more capable than they ever knew.
  • Love others and accept love in return; love God and accept His love and mercy for them; and through these new loves, come to love themselves.
  • Hear God speaking to them in their daily lives and follow His direction.
  • Advance continually; seeking always to be better tomorrow than they are today.
  • Leave behind the faults of the past and find rest, contentment and joy in being the man whom God created them to be.
Our History

Preparing a place for men on parole since 2017

Founded by Jim Blum after his release from prison in 2016, My Father’s House provides housing and support for men on parole, addressing the critical gap for those without a safety net. Launched in 2017, the organization opened its first house in 2018 and has since become a community partner with the Work and Gain Education and Employment Skills (WAGEES) program, funded by the Colorado Department of Corrections and administered by the Latino Coalition for Community Leadership. That same year, My Father’s House partnered with AVSI-USA to launch the Restorative Freedom Initiative, further expanding their reach and impact. Growing steadily, My Father’s House now includes four houses and a partnership with the Caring for Denver Foundation. With a dedicated team and a recidivism rate of 0%, My Father’s House has profoundly impacted its participants’ lives, helping them transition successfully.
