Jim Blum, the founder, CEO, and Executive Director of My Father’s House, graduated with a Bachelor of Music with a concentration in Education from Colorado State University in 1991; and with a Master of Arts in Theology from Catholic Distance University in 2008. He has also studied accounting. He holds the Catechetical Diploma from the Holy See as well as an Adult Mental Health First Aid certification from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.
Jim has worked as an elementary school music teacher and professional singer. He was a Classical music radio host at KVOD and Colorado Public Radio in Denver. Jim studied accounting and operated his own bookkeeping practice in the late nineties. He has tutored GED students in reading and mathematics and done much one-on-one mentoring with men seeking answers in their lives. Jim taught courses in character and virtues training and acted as a life coach. He also led Bible studies and taught RCIA.
Jim currently lives in Aurora, a suburb of Denver. Having served 20 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections, he recognized the need for a ministry to help men with practical needs when they get out of prison, but even more for companionship and community as they move into a new way of thinking and living. To meet these needs, Jim founded My Father’s House in 2017. He has built My Father’s House from its small beginnings to an organization with two additional employees, student interns, many volunteers, and dozens of successful participants in the program. His personal experience with prison and parole makes him uniquely qualified to help others with all the aspects of navigating parole and moving on with their lives. He seeks to provide support and wise counsel to men who have made a decision to change their lives and seek healing and strength through a relationship with God.
A prison reentry nonprofit that provides transitional housing, job placement assistance, life-skills training, and a supportive community to men on parole so they can lead whole and productive lives.
