OUR HISTORY

My Father’s House was founded by Jim Blum, who was released from prison in 2016 after serving over 20 years. Unlike many, Jim had the support of friends and family upon his release. This support highlighted a critical gap for those without such a safety net. While incarcerated, Jim felt a calling to help others, and upon his release, he found a practical way to give back by providing housing and support for other men on parole. Jim recognized not only the need for practical assistance but also the importance of companionship and community in helping men transition to a new way of thinking and living.

In 2017, Jim launched My Father’s House. The organization opened its first house in 2018, providing a safe and supportive environment for men on parole. By 2020, My Father’s House had become a community partner with the Work and Gain Education and Employment Skills (WAGEES) program, funded by the Colorado Department of Corrections and administered by the Latino Coalition for Community Leadership. That same year, they partnered with AVSI-USA to launch the Restorative Freedom Initiative, further expanding their reach and impact.

The organization continued to grow, opening a second house in 2021, a third house in 2023, and a fourth house in 2024. In 2023, My Father’s House also became a partner with the Caring for Denver Foundation, underscoring its commitment to supporting the community.

From its modest beginnings, My Father’s House has expanded into a robust organization with a dedicated team of employees, student interns, numerous volunteers, and dozens of successful program participants. Remarkably, the organization boasts a recidivism rate of 0%.
